Facts about Lebanon:
- In Arabic, the name of Lebanon is "Lubnan". "Lubnan" comes from the Aramaic word "laban", which means "white". "White" refers to the colours of the Lebanese mountains covered in snow.
- The early inhabitants of Lebanon were not Lebanese, they were Phoenicians, also known as Cannanites. The Phoenicians were famous for producing cedar wood, a wood which used to be abundantly found in Lebanese, but can only be found in certain places today, including the Cedars of Lebanon in the northern part of the country.
- Today's Phoenician cities include, Baalbek, Byblos, Sidon and Tyre. It is said to be that the word "Bible" derived from name Byblos, a city which is said to be the world's oldest inhabited city.
- The Phoenician alphabet gave foundation to the alphabet we use in today's world.
